Telemann’s concerto and the scordatura options made available in this edition. Telemann’s prolificness extended to fifty-two multiple-instrument concertos, thirty-seven of them being double concertos.5 Over a dozen different instruments are featured as solo instruments, including now uncommon instruments such as the oboe d’amore, viola.
The Concerto for 2 violas in G major, TWV 52:G3, is a work by Georg Philipp Telemann. Telemann was famous for writing concertos for various instruments and at the time the viola was not a popular instrument for a concerto because it was considered an English instrument, thus unfashionable. However, Telemann was a viola player himself, and wrote for the instrument. One of his most famous concertos was viola in G major TWV 51:G9.
